1988 Toyota Camry LE description
- We are selling our 1988 Toyota Camry that we purchased used from the Toyota Dealer in Daytona Beach, Florida, May of 1992. Yes, we have owned our 1988 Camry for more than 25 years and the Camry has been amazing. The Camry was built in Japan in January of 1988. It had 72,700 miles in 1992 and now it has 268,850 miles. My son rode home in the back seat of the Camry from the hospital when he was born and today he drives it locally to his part time job.
We lived in Titusville, Florida and Wildwood, Florida until 2004 then we moved to Pittsburgh, PA. Our 1988 Toyota Camry family car moved with us.
The Camry still has a valid Pennsylvania state inspection stickers for mechanical and exempt emissions until 02/28/2019. The Camry will be sold with fresh oil change and ready for local neighborhood driving.
In 2014, replaced transmission with used one that had only 156,000 miles with rebuilt C/V shafts. 2015 rack and pinion shaft was replaced with a used one that had only 110,000 miles and replaced the disturber with used one with 126,000 miles. It is on it's forth timing belt. The 2.0 liter engine which is 16 value overhead head camshaft is very reliable and fuel economical for 80's technology. It gets 25 city and 35 highway.
It has been a very dependable car for 25 years but now a classic car 30 years old it is time to sell it. Selling as a project car for restoration. The Camry should last one more year for local driving but cannot give a guarantee. Buying will purchase the car as is, where is.
Can deliver the Camry for a fee of 50 cents per mile anywhere in the USA or Canada. I have 10 years experience as a commercial driver in Auto Drive Away and also experience in car and truck exporting.
For restoration the Camry will need.
1. engine overhaul
2. Body work. rust holes in fenders and rear panels and painting.
3, Interior, AC R-134 conversion, driver's door window motor not getting electrical power and dash replacement.
4. Suspension bushings replaced.
I will include many spare parts in my garage, such as alternator, starter, master cylinder, power brake booster, headlight, tail lights, marker lights, window electric motors, window regulator, inside door handles, fuel filter, spark plugs, cold start injector, MAP sensor, belts, hoses, flex pipe, steering wheel, brake pads, caliper bolts, and Haynes Camry maintenance manual and Toyota Owner's manual
Parts are not expensive. At our local salvage yard, I know where there is used engine 2.0 liter with 113,000 on it. There are two vintage Camry's in the same salvage yard that I have taken parts off to keep our 1988 Camry going. Please look at the that last 3 photos.
Photos 1 to 6 are current. Photos # 7 and 8 were taken in 2016 and show alloy wheels that will be sold separately. Photos # 9 and # 10 were taken of the Camry in 2010 and that year I drove it to Florida. I know it has the potential to be restored. Photos # 11, 12 and 13 were taken at our local salvage yard as example photos to show that vintage Camry car parts are available and not that expensive.
For the buy it now price, I will deliver the Camry for free 300 miles or less from Pittsburgh. The buyer will not need to license or insure the Camry to move it to their body shop to begin restoration.
Feel free to ask any questions. I will post answers on listing.
